Remembering Those Old School Days
Some days in life never really become old. Years pass, we grow up, and life gets busier, but whenever we think about those school days of our childhood, it somehow feels like it all happened just yesterday.
Every morning, we would wake up to our mother's voice.
“Wake up! You're getting late for school!”
With sleepy eyes, getting out of bed felt like the first battle of the day. Somehow, we would wash our face, put on our school uniform, comb our hair, put on our shoes, and get ready with our school bag.
Sometimes we couldn't find a notebook. Sometimes we forgot to tie our shoelaces properly. And at the very last moment, Mom would put the lunch box inside our school bag.
(Then began the journey to school.)
The familiar faces on the way, meeting our friends, walking together, and finally reaching school—all of it had a special kind of happiness.
❤️Those Classroom Days❤️
As soon as we reached school, the chatting with friends would begin. But the moment the bell rang, everyone had to quietly take their seats.
Then came one class after another.
Bengali, English, Mathematics, Science...
Sometimes it felt like time had completely stopped moving. Especially when the teacher said,
“Everyone, take out your notebooks…”
The wait for the lunch break suddenly became even longer.
But looking back today, there was something special about those classrooms. The chalk writing on the blackboard, pencil marks on our notebooks, whispering to our friends while sitting on the bench—all of these little things have now become precious memories.
❤️The Lunch Bell — The Best Part of the Day❤️
Finally, the most awaited bell would ring.π€©
Lunch break!π±π΄
And suddenly, everyone would forget about studying and rush outside.
Some friends would have roti and vegetables, some would have paratha, some would bring luchi and aloo dum, while others would have something completely different.
The moment the lunch boxes opened, sharing would begin.
“Give me some of yours, I'll give you some of mine!”
Sometimes our friend's lunch seemed much tastier than our own.π
We may eat all kinds of delicious food today, but the simple homemade lunch shared with friends on a school bench had a taste that can never truly be replaced.
πSchool Was Over — Freedom!π€
The moment the final bell rang, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted from our shoulders.
We would rush out through the school gate with our bags on our shoulders.
On the way home, there would be jokes, laughter, stories about the day's events, and plans for the next day. Before we knew it, we would reach home.
After changing our clothes and washing our hands and face, it was time for lunch.
Mom would serve hot rice on the plate.π
After returning from school, that simple homemade lunch tasted unbelievably good. We were so hungry that whenever Mom asked,
“Would you like some more rice?”
the answer was almost always,
“Yes!”
π€Έ♂️Evening Meant Playtimeπ΄♂️
After lunch, we would rest for a while.
But once evening arrived, staying indoors was almost impossible.
Our friends would come calling from outside:
“Come on! Are you coming to play?”
And that was it.
Homework, studies, everything could wait.
We would run outside.
Sometimes it was cricket, sometimes football, sometimes hide-and-seek, and sometimes we would simply wander around with our friends without even having a particular game to play.
As the sun began to set, Mom would call from the balcony:
“Come home! It's getting dark!”
And we would shout back,
“Coming!”
But that “coming” somehow always took a little longer.
π₯Ί Evening Meant Homeworkπ
Eventually, we had to return home.
After washing up and changing clothes, it was time to open our books and notebooks.
The moment we opened our homework, we would remember the fun we had been having outside. We would wish we could play for just a little longer. Also felt so much sleepy when the book and copies we in front of us π
But slowly, the Bengali writing, mathematics, homework, and preparation for the next day's classes would get done.
And Of Course, Some TV Time!
Once the homework was finished, the most relaxing part of the day began.
We would sit in front of the television and watch our favorite cartoons, shows, or programs.
There were no smartphones, YouTube, or endless streaming options back then.
If our favorite show was scheduled at 8:30 PM, we had to wait until 8:30PM to watch it.
And somehow, that waiting made it even more special.
Dinner Together as a Family
After the TV was switched off, it was time for dinner.
Mom would serve the food. Dad might talk about his day. Everyone would sit together and eat.
The food might have been simple, but those moments were priceless.
Today, we may live under the same roof and still remain busy with our own phones and screens.
Back then, even an ordinary family dinner felt like a beautiful moment spent together.
And Then… Sleep
After dinner, we would brush our teeth and get into bed.
Mom might ask one last question:
“Did you pack your school bag? You have school tomorrow!”
Half asleep, we would reply,
“Yes…”
Whether the bag was actually packed or not was another matter entirely!
A few minutes later, our eyes would close.
And the next morning, it would all begin again.
Another morning.
Another call from Mom.
Another school uniform.
Another lunch box.
Another day with friends.
Another round of classes, games, homework, television, dinner, and sleep.
Back then, we never thought these ordinary days were anything special.
We thought life would always be like that.
But today, we understand something.
**Those ordinary days were actually the most extraordinary days of our lives.**
πWe grew up.
πThe school uniform is gone.
πThe lunch box is gone.
πThe playground may no longer be there.
πOur friends have moved on with their own lives.
But somewhere deep inside us, that little child is still listening to the sound of the school bell.
And sometimes, we wish…
**If only we could go back for just one day.**
π€Wake up to Mom's voice.
π€Put the school bag on our shoulders.
π€Carry that little lunch box.
π€And run to school with our friends once again.
Just for one day.☝️
**Just to be a child again. ❤️**
