A letter
One day an old postman knocked on the door of a house and said, "Please take the letter."
As soon as I heard the voice, a girl's voice echoed from inside... "I am coming...wait."
But when no one came for about five minutes, the postman said again, "Hey brother! Is anyone there? Take your letter...I have to go to many other places...I cannot wait for long..."
The girl's voice came again, "Uncle Postman, if you are in a hurry then put the letter under the door, I am coming, it will take some more time."
"Now the old postman said irritably, "No, I am here, it is a registered letter, it needs someone's signature too."
After about ten minutes the door opened.
The postman was already very angry for the delay and was about to shout at the girl, but as soon as the door opened he was shocked and his eyes remained wide open. All his anger vanished in a moment.
In front of him stood a little handicapped girl who had no leg.
The girl very innocently extended her hand towards the postman and said...give me my letter...
The postman quietly delivered the mail, took his signature and went away from there.
That handicapped girl often stayed alone in her house. Her mother was no longer alive and her father used to travel outside for work.
To take care of that girl, a maid used to stay with her in the house in the morning and evening, but due to circumstances, she used to remain completely alone in her house during the day.
Time kept passing.
Once in a month or two, whenever any post arrived for that girl, the postman would call out and stand calmly at the door until the girl came to the door.
Gradually the friendship and emotional attachment between them increased over the days.
One day the girl looked at the postman very carefully and found that he had no shoes on his feet. He always came to deliver the post barefoot.
The rainy season arrived.
Then one day, when the postman came and left after delivering the mail, the girl placed a paper on the footprints of the postman in the wet mud and took a picture of those footprints.
The next day he asked the maid at his house to get shoes of that size and kept them in his house.
Just before Diwali was about to arrive the postman asked for money from all the people in the locality for the festival.
But he thought about the little girl that why should I ask for a gift from her, but since I have come to the street, I should at least meet her.
At the same time, the postman also started thinking that it would not be right to meet a little girl empty handed during the festival. After much thinking, he bought chocolates worth five rupees for the girl.
After that he knocked on the door of the girl's house.
A voice came from inside...."Who?
"It is me Gudiya...your postman uncle".. came the reply.
When the girl came and opened the door, the old postman handed her a chocolate and said, "Take this from your poor uncle."
The girl became very happy and asked the postman to wait there for some time.
After that he brought a big box from one of the rooms of his house and handing it over to the postman said, "Uncle...this is a gift from me to you on Diwali.
The postman was very surprised to see the box. He did not know what to say.
After thinking for a while, he said, "You are like a daughter to me, how can I accept any gift from you, dear daughter?
"The girl requested him, "Uncle, please don't refuse this gift, otherwise I will be sad."
"Okay", saying this the old postman took the packet and lovingly placed his hand on the girl's head as if blessing her.
The girl said, "Uncle, take this packet to your house and open it."
When the postman opened the package after reaching home, he was surprised because it contained a pair of shoes. His eyes welled up with tears.
The postman couldn't believe that a little girl could be so concerned about him.
The next day the postman reached his post office and requested the postmaster to transfer him to another area immediately.
When the postmaster asked the reason for this, the postman narrated the whole story while keeping those shoes on the table and said with moist eyes and choked throat, "Sir...from today onwards I will not be able to go to that street. That little handicapped girl gave shoes to my bare feet but how will I be able to give her my feet?"
Having said this the postman started crying bitterly. 😢😢
